Training in Mission (TIM)

The Training in Mission programme is a youth leadership development programme run by the Council for World Mission (CWM). TIM currently takes place for seven months in Taiwan, Kiribati, Fiji and New Zealand.

The programme includes the following elements:

  1. orientation to the programme and the local context
  2. study sessions on issues related to mission and theology
  3. fulltime voluntary work in church and community projects
  4. team building sessions
  5. evaluation

Volunteer profile

CWM is looking for young people with the following qualities:

  • interested in exploring mission issues in an international and multicultural context
  • committed and active member of the Presbyterian Church of Aotearoa New Zealand
  • able to related well with others
  • mature enough to cope with stress
  • able to spend seven months away from home
  • aged 20-30, single, not an ordained minister
  • committed to sharing experiences on returning home
  • in good health
  • with some experience of project work through voluntary or paid employment in church programmes or with  NGOs
  • committed to the code of conduct


CWM will pay for the cost of international travel, food, accommodation and tutorial expenses during TIM. CWM will also provide monthly pocket money. Clothing and book allowances will be provided as required by the activities of the participants.

TIM 2019

Applicants must be aged between 18-30 and be able to spend seven months away from home. Applications for TIM 2019 will open later in the year. In the meantime, enquiries and further information can be obtained from Global Mission Coordinator Phil King.
