Dr William J. Porteous took part in a special deputation to India in 1908 to search for a suitable mission area for the New Zealand Presbyterian Church (refer subject file) from 1909. He undertook the duties of Doctor for the Punjab Mission until his resignation in 1926. He married Edith Rayner in 1909.
Included in this file are : copies
of personal and official letters, correspondence and telegrammes; testimonials;
reports on suitable fields (1908); deputation work; correspondence in capacity
of Punjab Mission Council Treasurer; reports on health of various missionaries
(incl. Miss M. Salmond); failure of Alliance Bank of Simla (1923).
