St Andrews on Terrace Congregational Vote (11 November 2001)

St Andrew's Support Appointment

Wellington's St Andrew's on the Terrace congregation today voted in support of the Rev Dr Margaret Mayman as their next parish minister.

Nominator for the St Andrews appointment, Rev Pamela Tankersley said, "Dr Mayman received a strong level of support from the congregation. There was a good turnout from the 140 plus congregation who registered their votes on Sunday (11 November ) on whether Dr Mayman should be their next parish minister".

"The congregation were asked to consider factors such as Dr Mayman's approach to ministry, her interests in social justice and her theological competence in making their decision. As with positions in the secular world, the best fit for the job was the prime consideration," Mrs Tankersley said.

The decision on whether Dr Mayman would be appointed will be made by Wellington Presbytery (the Presbyterian regional oversight group) who needed to satisfy themselves that Dr Mayman had sufficient support in the congregation and that all church legal requirements had been met,

Mrs Tankersley said.

If Wellington Presbytery agreed to the appointment the final stage would be for the Christchurch Presbytery to approve the call and place it in Dr Mayman's hands. Dr Mayman is currently a minister in Christchurch.

Dr Mayman said she was grateful for the level of support and would wait for the Wellington Presbytery decision.
