For the next several months some Presbyterian and Uniting congregations in Christchurch will be unable to meet due to the ongoing affects of the earthquake, including families being relocated for a time, extensive damage to church buildings and to surrounding roads, workplaces closing due to damage, and ongoing disruption to power and water supplies
This is not intended as a substitute for the many appeals for funds to support rescue and relief efforts. It is intended as a simple way for congregations around New Zealand to support and share ongoing and special costs our Christchurch churches may face in situations where their own offerings and other income, including income from the use of buildings, will be significantly depleted.
Release of these funds will be coordinated through the Assembly Office and the Christchurch Presbytery. For the next month the Assembly Office will, if necessary, add to these appeal funds to underwrite the payments of any regular costs such as stipends and wages for church employees for any Christchurch congregation that may otherwise be unable to pay these.
We will review the most appropriate way to provide financial support to congregations at the end of March.
Your generous support of our churches at this very difficult time would be greatly appreciated.
