The Opportunity
Due to the departure of a valued staff member, we have an exciting opportunity for a Student Support Advisor to join our Student Experience team. This role will primarily be based at our Henderson campus, while providing support as required at our Manukau Learning Hub. 

You’ll be working to provide student support to our students across all our study programmes (including Distance Learning students), enhancing their learning experience and contributing to the successful completion of their chosen course or programme. Your experience in building trusted relationships and your proactive and caring support will be critical to ensuring their academic success. You will report to the Student Support Manager and work with the wider Student Experience team and Lecturers.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting students through the enquiry, application, enrolment, and orientation stages of admission to Laidlaw College 
  • Supporting students to successfully navigate their educational journey by helping them successfully engage with academic processes e.g. assignment planning, writing and referencing
  • Providing pastoral care and referring students to counselling and other support services as necessary

Who are we looking for?
The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong commitment to the vision and mission of Laidlaw College 
  • A Bachelor’s Degree (a Degree in Counselling, Education or Theology related fields is preferred, but not essential)
  • Well developed and confident interpersonal and communication skills
  • Thorough planning and organisational skills
  • Excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office applications, email, cloud and web-based systems)
  • The ability to work collaboratively within and across the Student Experience Team
  • Understanding and experience of Maori and /or Pasifika languages, cultures and values would be advantageous
